ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro, Google AI Pro, Perplexity Pro and Midjourney together cost $109.99 a month. Here is what each buys, what Reddit actually pays for, and the one-subscription alternative.
The honest answer is that it depends on whether you need one lab's best model or several. If one tool does your daily work, a single $20 subscription to ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro or Perplexity Pro is enough. If your work spans labs, subscribing to all the majors costs $109.99 a month ($1,319.88 a year) for ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro, Google AI Pro, Perplexity Pro and Midjourney Standard. The third option is an aggregator, one subscription that meters many vendors' models per use.

Two things are worth separating before comparing prices. First, model access: every paid tier buys higher limits on the vendor's best models, and the free tiers now run on deliberately weaker or more capped versions. Second, the extras: ChatGPT bundles its app ecosystem and memory, Google AI Pro bundles 5 TB of storage and cloud credits, Claude bundles Code and Cowork, Perplexity bundles cited search with premium data sources, Midjourney bundles the community feed and Relax queue. The sticker prices are nearly identical; the bundles are not, so "which is best" is really "which bundle matches your week".
In the r/AI_Agents thread "What's the best AI to actually pay for right now?" (207 comments), Claude is the runaway pick: four of the top-level answers are Claude Max subscribers citing Claude Code and Cowork ("letting it code during the whole day"), with Claude Pro called the sweet spot for anyone not hitting limits. The most common paid combination is ChatGPT plus Claude run side by side, with several posters explicitly questioning whether the overlap is worth two subscriptions. Cheap second subscriptions show up too: GLM and Kimi for coding on a budget, Copilot for in-editor work, and API access instead of a sub for niche models. The pattern is not "subscribe to everything"; it is one anchor subscription plus metered access to the rest.
| Plan | Price | Best at | Limit type | Trains on your data by default |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT Plus | $20/mo | General purpose, apps ecosystem | Message caps per window | Yes, opt out in settings |
| ChatGPT Pro | From $100/mo | Heavy individual use | Higher caps | Yes, opt out |
| Claude Pro | $20/mo or $200/yr | Writing, long context, Claude Code | Five-hour session plus weekly cap | No, opt out model |
| Claude Max | $100 or $200/mo | Builders who hit Pro limits | 5x or 20x Pro | No |
| Google AI Pro | $19.99/mo | Gemini 3.1 Pro, Deep Research, 5 TB storage | Usage limits | Per Google account settings |
| Google AI Ultra | $99.99 or $199.99/mo | Flow credits, Veo, Agent Mode | Highest limits | Same |
| Perplexity Pro | $20/mo or $17/mo annual | Cited search, research | Query allotments plus one-time Computer credits | No on the API side; consumer per settings |
| Perplexity Max | $200/mo | Daily agent workloads | 10,000 recurring monthly credits | Same |
| Midjourney Standard | $30/mo or $288/yr | Image generation | 15 Fast GPU hours plus unlimited Relax | Outputs public unless Stealth (Pro) |
Add the mainstream tiers: ChatGPT Plus $20 + Claude Pro $20 + Google AI Pro $19.99 + Perplexity Pro $20 + Midjourney Standard $30 = $109.99 a month, $1,319.88 a year. A lighter two-tool stack, ChatGPT Plus plus Claude Pro, is $40 a month or $480 a year. And that is before usage: every subscription still caps you, so a heavy user can pay $110 a month and still hit walls inside each app. The stack also buys five separate logins, five separate histories, and none of them share context with each other.
Aggregators sell one account that fronts many vendors' models, billed per use in credits, points or messages rather than per vendor seat.
| Aggregator | Price | Metering | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Krater Pro | $20/mo, 1,500 credits | Credits per answer, per image, per video clip | Chat models plus image and video generation; API from Ultra |
| Poe | ~$20/mo Premium, points plans reported at $4.99 to $249.99 by GrayGrids | Points per message | Custom bot ecosystem; points burn fast on premium models |
| Magai | $20/$40/$200/mo | Scheduled task runs as the limiter | All models on every plan, extra users $20 each |
| Abacus ChatLLM Teams | $10/mo | Usage-based | 100+ models incl. image and video, agent and app builder tools |
| TypingMind | $39 one-time license, reported by Admix | Your own API keys, pay per token | Interface only; you still pay providers directly |
| Aymo AI | $12/mo Premium, free tier | Plan limits | Team workspaces, shared context |
The catches, named by users in the r/ArtificialInteligence thread on aggregator sites and the reviews above: you are still metered (credits and points, just one meter instead of five), new flagship models arrive later than on vendor apps, and vendor-native features like ChatGPT Projects, Canvas, persistent memory and Google's storage bundle do not come through an API. Aggregators make money on API markup and breakage, so read the metering before you assume it is a bargain.
These are billed amounts from runs we did on Krater in September 2026, at Pro plan value ($20 for 1,500 credits, about $0.013 per credit).
| Model | Credits per answer | Roughly N per month on 1,500 credits |
|---|---|---|
| Gemini 3.8 Flash | 0.69 to 0.76 | ~2,000 short answers |
| Sonar | 0.2 to 1.09 | ~1,400 to 7,500 short answers |
| Claude Sonnet 5 | 0.6 to 3 | ~500 to 2,500 answers |
| Gemini 3.1 Pro | 3.6 to 10.1 | ~150 to 400 answers |
| Claude Opus 5 | 1.8 to 15 | ~100 to 800 answers |
| Claude Fable 5.1 | 3.3 to 28.8 | ~50 to 450 answers |
| GPT-6 Sol | 1.2 per task average | ~1,250 tasks |
| Flux 2 | 4 per image | ~375 images |
| Nano Banana | 10 per image | ~150 images |
| GPT Image 2 | 14 per image | ~107 images |
Longer prompts, attached files and video cost more than these short-prompt figures. What a Krater plan does not give you: no Google storage bundle, no ChatGPT-native apps or memory features, and no Midjourney endpoint. It is the breadth play, not the deep-integration play.
Every vendor now sells a $100 to $200 tier: ChatGPT Pro from $100, Claude Max $100 or $200, Google AI Ultra $99.99 or $199.99, Perplexity Max $200. These are not "best subscription" candidates for most people; they exist for users who hit the $20 tier's limits daily. The Reddit thread is explicit about this: Claude Max subscribers justify it because Claude Code runs all day, not because the model is smarter. If you are not hitting the cap on the $20 plan by Thursday, the top tier is waste. If you are, the top tier is usually still a better deal than stacking a second $20 subscription for the same workload.
Two patterns repeat across the pages ranking for this term. First, listicles score plans on feature count, which flatters the biggest bundle rather than the best fit; Google AI Pro wins any feature-count contest because storage is in the bundle, but storage is worthless if you do not need it. Second, the "subscribe to two or three" advice assumes you need the full app experience of each; if what you actually need is the models, the same money goes further metered. The Medium essayists get closer to reality than the big sites: the consensus shape is one anchor tool plus cheap access to everything else.
Writer: Claude Pro, or an aggregator if you also generate images. Developer: Claude Pro or Max for Claude Code, plus metered access for the rest. Researcher: Perplexity Pro for cited answers. Designer: Midjourney Standard, or metered image models if you generate under ~2,000 images a month. Generalist who wants one login: an aggregator. Team: per-seat Business plans buy admin and compliance, not cheaper tokens.
There is no single best; the r/AI_Agents thread's most common answer is Claude (Pro or Max) for builders, with ChatGPT Plus the default generalist pick. Best overall is whichever model does your daily work best.
The one you use daily. A $20 plan you open every morning beats a $110 stack you barely touch. If you spread across models, a metered aggregator converts the same $20 into access to all of them.
Annual billing is the reliable discount: Claude Pro $200/yr ($17/mo) and Perplexity Pro $17/mo annual both undercut monthly. Google AI Plus at $4.99/mo is the cheapest major entry tier.
Match the company to the job: OpenAI for the app ecosystem, Anthropic for writing and coding agents, Google for the storage bundle, Perplexity for cited research, Midjourney for images. Or subscribe to none of them directly and use an aggregator.
Only if two tools genuinely split your daily work. The Reddit thread shows most people settle on one anchor sub and cover the rest via API or a metered plan.
Monthly until you know your usage pattern; annual once a tool survives a full month of daily use. The annual discounts (15 to 20 percent) are real but lock you in through model releases.
All the vendors above bill monthly with cancellation from account settings; cancel before the renewal date. Export anything you need first, since chat histories do not transfer between vendors.
One $20 subscription is enough if your work lives in one app. The full stack is $109.99 a month and still leaves you metered inside each product. If your usage genuinely spans labs, a metered aggregator is the shape that converts $20 into access to all of them, at the cost of the vendor-native extras.
