Key Takeaways
- Unclear - Windsurf published student terms (discounted Pro for verified students), but the student signup page now redirects and the current pricing page lists no student plan. Treat it as unconfirmed until Windsurf re-publishes an entry point.
- Checked against Windsurf's official pages in October 2026 - coupon sites claiming otherwise are stale.
- Krater offers 15% off for one year at /students - one workspace with 500+ models instead of a single tool.
What Windsurf actually offers students
Windsurf's student terms describe a discounted monthly Windsurf Pro subscription for students at accredited institutions, valid up to 12 months and renewable by re-verification. However, the old student signup URL now redirects away and the current pricing page lists no student plan - after Windsurf folded into Devin's site, the offer's status is genuinely unconfirmed.Practical advice: open Windsurf's pricing page and look for a student entry point before assuming a discount exists. If none appears, the offer is likely paused or ended.
What students do instead
- Check the pricing page first. If a student option exists it will surface there or in checkout.
- The free tier is real. 25 prompt credits/month with all premium models covers light use.
- Alternatives with confirmed student offers. Copilot via GitHub Student Pack (free) and Zed free Pro for a year are live today.
If you are not eligible - the cheaper route
Windsurf Free gives 25 prompt credits a month across all premium models - enough to evaluate whether the editor fits your workflow.
And if what you actually need is AI help across the board - writing, research, images, video, coding - a single-tool discount is still a single tool. Krater's student offer takes 15% off for a year on a workspace that bundles 500+ models for a flat $20/month list price. Compare Windsurf's full pricing with Krater's plans before deciding.
