Claude Pro comparison

Claude is excellent for writing and coding, but it is one model family with no image, video or music generation. Krater gives you Claude Opus and Sonnet alongside GPT, Gemini, Grok and 500+ other models, plus the full creative suite, from $20 a month.

The short answer

  • Keep Claude and add everything else: Krater Pro, $20 a month. Claude Opus and Sonnet plus 500+ other models, images and video.
  • Closest straight swap: ChatGPT Plus, $20 a month.
  • Your files live in Google: Google AI Pro, $19.99 a month.
  • You need sources: Perplexity Pro, $20 a month.
  • Cheapest paid plan: Mistral Vibe Pro, $14.99 a month.
  • Free: DeepSeek, or stay on Claude's own free plan.
  • Lots of models on a small budget: Poe, from $4.99 a month.

Why people leave Claude

  • Limits. Every plan runs on a five hour window, and paid plans add a weekly cap on top. Even Max at $100 a month can stall mid project.
  • No media. Claude cannot make images, video or music at any price.
  • One model family. When Claude has an off day on a task, there is nowhere else to go inside the app.

All eight at a glance

For reference, Claude is Free, Pro at $20 ($17 billed yearly), Max from $100, and Team from $20 a seat billed yearly. Prices below come from each vendor's own pricing page, US monthly, before tax.

ChatGPT: the straight swap

If you want one app that does a bit of everything, it is ChatGPT. Plus is $20 a month and covers image generation, deep research, Codex, projects and custom GPTs, with the biggest ecosystem of any AI app.

What you lose: Claude's writing voice, Claude Code and Artifacts. ChatGPT also trains on your chats by default unless you switch it off.

Gemini: if your files live in Google

Google AI Pro is $19.99 a month and puts Gemini inside Gmail, Docs and Chrome, with Deep Research and image, video and music generation.

If you already pay Google for storage, it is the easiest move. Its limits also run on rolling windows, so it will not fully fix the cap problem.

The rest, in one line each

  • Perplexity: $20 Pro, citations on every answer, and it runs models from several labs. Built for research, not long writing.
  • Copilot: free app. The version inside Word, Excel and Teams comes with Microsoft 365 business plans from $23.50 per user a month.
  • Mistral Vibe: $14.99 Pro, the cheapest paid plan here, with a coding CLI and a training opt out on paid tiers.
  • Poe: from $4.99 a month for thousands of bots, billed in points. Heavy use of top models burns through them fast.
  • DeepSeek: free and strong at reasoning. It is a Chinese company under Chinese data law, so be careful with work content.

When you should stay on Claude

Be honest with yourself here. If your work runs on Claude Code, Artifacts, Projects or the 1M token context, nothing else does that the same way, and switching will cost you more than it saves.

Same if privacy decides it: Claude lets you opt out of training on every plan. Of the alternatives, only Mistral's paid plans and Krater match that.

Krater: keep Claude, lose the limits

Krater does not ask you to give up Claude. Opus, Sonnet and Haiku run through Anthropic's official API, next to GPT, Gemini, Grok and 500+ other models in the same chat.

There is no five hour window. You get a credit balance (Pro is $20 for 1,500 credits) and each answer costs what it actually used. The same credits make images, video, voice and music.

What Krater does not have: Claude Code, Artifacts, Claude Design or Projects. Those are Anthropic's own products. If your day depends on them, keep Claude and use Krater for everything else.

Before you cancel

  • Save your custom instructions and preferences. Krater has Personas, ChatGPT has custom instructions, Gemini has Gems.
  • Download any files you uploaded to Projects. In Krater you can reuse them with any model, not just Claude.
  • Run three real prompts from last week in both tools. Model Arena lets you test several models at once, including the Claude model you are leaving.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Claude alternative overall?

It depends on why you are leaving. For a like for like swap on writing and coding, ChatGPT Plus at $20 a month is the closest. If the problem is being locked to one model family, Krater Pro at the same $20 keeps Claude Opus and Sonnet available and adds GPT, Gemini, Grok and 500+ other models plus image, video and voice tools.

Are there cheaper alternatives to Claude Pro?

Yes. Mistral Vibe Pro is $14.99 a month, ChatGPT Go is $8 a month and Poe starts at $4.99. DeepSeek and Claude's own free tier cost nothing. Krater Pro is the same $20 as Claude Pro, but the $20 covers every model family plus media tools instead of Claude only.

Is Claude better than ChatGPT?

They lead on different jobs. Claude is widely preferred for long documents, careful writing and Claude Code for agentic coding. ChatGPT covers more ground: image generation, video generation, custom GPTs and a bigger app ecosystem. If you need both, Krater runs Claude and GPT models in the same chat.

Is Claude on Krater the same model?

Yes. Krater calls Anthropic's official API for Claude Opus, Sonnet and Haiku, the same models, no downgrade. You can switch to GPT or Gemini mid conversation, or run them side by side in Model Arena.

What can Claude do that alternatives cannot?

Claude Code's agentic terminal coding, Artifacts, Claude Design, Slides and Docs, Projects with shared context and up to 1M tokens of context are Claude only. If those carry your work, stay. If you mostly use Claude as a smart chat, the alternatives cover that and more.
